EastEnders teases huge show exit as Anthony Trueman murder plot thickens

EastEnders’ recent episode teased an exit for a character who has been a part of huge storylines in the past year, and was expected to still play a major role in the coming months

A huge twist in Monday’s EastEnders suggests a major character is about to leave the BBC soap. Jasmine Fisher has been a huge part of the show in the last year, from attacking Cindy Beale to revealing herself as Zoe Slater’s secret daughter in a tense Christmas show down. But, though she is expected to still be effecting storylines in the next 12 months, the soap has teased her exit.

Christmas ended with a bang – literally. After being whacked over the head by a mystery assailant, Anthony Trueman died on Christmas Day. Believing she had caused his death when she hit him in self-defence, Zoe handed herself over to the police. But when it was revealed he died from another hit, her mother Kat Slater became convinced that the villainous Chrissie Watts was framing Zoe.

In Monday’s episode (January 19), Kat insisted that Jasmine tell the police about how the villainous Chrissie Watts manipulated her into stalking Zoe and committing arson, in the hopes that this information would convince them that Zoe was framed for Anthony’s murder. Unbeknownst to Kat, she was talking to the true killer.

It was revealed last week that Jasmine killed Anthony after seeing him attack Zoe and confronting him. She filmed the incident and still had the recording on her phone. Terrified that she was becoming a burden to her new family, Jasmine ended Monday’s episode by asking her boyfriend, Oscar Branning, if he would run away from Walford with her, teasing her exit from the show.

Though Oscar was prominent in the soap’s New Year’s Day flashforward and, therefore, will be in Walford until 2027, Jasmine was absent from the episode. Therefore, it could be that Jasmine will run away from the Slaters and what she has done, but that Oscar will ultimately decide not to go with her.

However, her grandfather, Patrick Trueman, was also in the New Year’s episode and told Oscar that he was “a Trueman now”, leading some to wonder if Oscar had been quasi-adopted by the family because of his relationship with Jasmine.

As such, some are not convinced Jasmine is leaving and said her plan to escape with Oscar would fail. One wrote on X: “Girl, you and Oscar are not sailing off into the sun together…” Another said: “Jasmine won’t be going anywhere. Oscar obviously isn’t either since he was seen on New Year’s.”

Others believe Jasmine has to stick around as she has to be on the show for the truth about who killed Anthony to be revealed. One theorised that she would stay on the Square, but at the cost of her mental health.

Fans wondered if Oscar would be dating the twin brother of his love interest Jasmine when 2027 arrives

“I think she is gonna have a massive breakdown soon, and it will come out maybe the week of Anthony’s funeral??” they said. Another agreed: “We know that they’ll drag out Jasmine‘s secret for as long as possible, like it’s probably going to happen like that.”

Fans also added that running away didn’t make sense, as Jasmine’s grandmother, Kat, would smell a rat. One asked: “Why does Jasmine want to run away when in Kat’s eyes it would make her look guilty as sin?”

A second added: “By running away all Jasmine is doing is making herself look really guilty.” The fan added that Kat will likely find out anyway, but weren’t convinced this would lead her to snitch on Jasmine. “I don’t think it’ll be long before Kat finds out that Jasmine killed Anthony and won’t tell the police to free Zoe.”
