Is Lucas Walking Into a Trap? GH’s Van Hansis Breaks Down the Wyndemere Move

Lucas has always had a soft spot for believing the best in people on General Hospital, but even for him, moving into Wyndemere with Marco and Sidwell feels like the kind of decision that should come with a waiver. Carly’s been shouting warnings into whatever wind is blowing across Spoon Island that day, and Lucas just keeps insisting everything’s fine. Now, Van Hansis is peeling back the curtain a little — not too much, this is GH — but enough to make you lean forward.

The Move to Wyndemere Isn’t Romantic — It’s a Blind Corner

“Coming up, some weird stuff starts to happen…” Hansis teased to Soap Opera Digest. He loves playing Lucas in this state — all heart, no caution — and he doesn’t pretend his character is making wise choices. If anything, Hansis gets a kick out of Lucas wanting agency so badly after the Brad (Parry Shen)/Wiley (Viron Weaver) fallout that he keeps mistaking danger for independence.

Hansis talked about how common it is on soaps for Prince Charmings to come with shadows, and Marco’s (Adrian Anchondo) no exception. He doesn’t know yet whether Marco’s using Lucas or genuinely loves him, but he suspects the truth sits right in the messy middle. That duality gives him something fun to play — Lucas leaning into love while ignoring the alarm bells. He explained, “Not that I knew anything going into [the pair’s courtship], but it’s kind of expected on a soap that there’s going to be trouble in paradise,” adding, “Because otherwise, you would never see the characters!”

And then there’s Carly (Laura Wright). Hansis didn’t sugarcoat it: as himself, he thinks she’s right. As Lucas, he hears only judgment. That tension feels lived-in, especially with Bobbie (the late Jackie Zeman ) gone and Carly becoming the person Lucas most wants validation from — and can’t get.

Sidwell, Secrets, and a Mansion That Doesn’t Stay Quiet for Long

Hansis absolutely lights up talking about the tone of the Wyndemere arc — “weird,” “gothic,” “fun” — and you can tell he means it. He’s especially taken with Sidwell’s portrayer, Carlo Rota. “I think he’s so fun to watch. He’s such a good villain,” he stated. He continued singing Rota’s praises with, “I love that he’s charming, and I can see how Lucas’ suspicions about him are kind of erased because, you know, here’s this charming British dude, offering him tea and crumpets and everything seems good!”

Meanwhile, of course, Lucas has no idea there’s already been a murder inside the house. Hansis laughs about it — that Lucas honestly thinks he’s living in some kind of Love Island knockoff while bodies are being dragged off. And if Hansis’ tease is to be believed, Lucas may be the last person on the island to realize just how dark things can get.

Because “weird stuff” at Wyndemere rarely means anything good.
