Coronation Street viewers say the same thing after Dee-Dee’s emotional exit
Actress Channique Sterling Brown has left the door open for a return to the cobbles
Coronation Street viewers said the same thing after emotional scenes saw Dee-Dee Bailey bid farewell to the cobbles. Channique Sterling Brown first arrived into the lovable role of Dee-Dee in 2022 and has been part of some of the ITV soap’s most iconic and memorable storylines.
Recently her character suffered a traumatic birth and decided to make a formal complaint to the hospital. Dee-Dee was also caught up in one of the most memorable storylines involving the late Joel Dearing.
Dee-Dee was the one who ended his terrifying reign of terror. In a gripping “whodunnit” storyline, Dee-Dee broke down in tears to her dad Ed as she confessed she killed Joel after finding out he was about to do a runner.
While recent episodes have focused heavily on Todd and Theo, in addition to Debbie’s wedding preparations, Friday’s broadcast of the ITV soap saw Dee-Dee bid farewell to Weatherfield for a new life in Singapore.
Meeting her brother in the cafe, Dee-Dee told a heartbroken James: “We’re heading down to London tonight and flying on Sunday.” She added: “We’re going to Speed Dahl later, I hope you can make it.”
James said: “To say goodbye? I don’t think I can face that, I love you and I wish you all the luck in the world.”
Later on, Dee-Dee was disappointed when her brother failed to make an appearance at her leaving meal. But the emotional dinner gave the other residents a chance to say goodbye.
The scene saw Dee-Dee’s uncle Ronnie wish her well, in addition to her good friends Lauren Bolton and Alya Nazir. A heartwarming moment saw Lauren say: “We’ll all miss you but I’m proud of you. You didn’t let Joel win.”

When it came to the time to say goodbye for good, the Weatherfield residents gathered on the street as Dee-Dee got into the taxi. She said goodbye to Billy Mayhew and Adam Barlow, before James arrived at the last minute.
He said: “I couldn’t let you go without saying a proper goodbye”, before also telling Laila he loved her. Dee-Dee’s friends and family waved as her taxi left Coronation Street for good.
Fans took to social media after Dee-Dee’s exit, expressing their sadness about saying goodbye to the lovable character.
On X, one soap viewer said: “I’m actually emotional, I’m going to miss Dee-Dee, she should’ve been there for Debbie’s wedding.” A second said: “Gutted tonight’s #corrie is @ChanniqueSB last scenes as Dee-Dee has her exit.” A third wrote: “I’m going to miss Dee-Dee.”

However, other soap fans suggested the exit was too low-key for such a strong character. One fan said: “Well that was an understated exit for Dee-Dee.”
Despite Dee-Dee’s emotional final scenes, Channique recently shared news of her next career venture on the Lorraine show. She said: “I’m writing a play for the Hope Mill Theatre [in Manchester] with HER Productions. We’re working with a charity called Her Place. It’s really important work about social care and women whose children get taken into social care and how they’re supported.
“So, I’m writing a really, hopefully, exciting play talking about family law, so I’ve kind of still got the lawyer angle going on. But yeah, I’m really excited for that. That will be on in March.”
