EastEnders is moving from its usual broadcast slot over this festive period – find out when the BBC soap will be airing.

As the Christmas schedules begin to be introduced across UK channels, the regular soap slots for shows such as EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale have been shifted.

Nevertheless, festive editions of the UK’s biggest soaps remain one of the biggest television draws for viewers over the Christmas and New Years period.

Here’s everything you need to know about when EastEnders will be on over this festive season.

When is EastEnders on over Christmas?

The EastEnders Christmas and New Years schedule from Monday, December 22 until Thursday, January 1 can be found below:

It’s worth keeping a note of a few major changes in time for EastEnders over this Christmas period. Christmas Day will see two episodes air – one at 7.45pm and another at 9.45pm, meanwhile Boxing Day’s episode will air at 9.30pm.

From New Years’ Day onwards, EastEnders will return to its usual timeslot of 7.30pm, Monday to Thursday.

This Christmas promises to bring some huge drama to Albert Square. The identity of Zoe’s stalker is set to be revealed in a festive showdown at the Queen Vic, meanwhile ghosts of Walford past such as Pat and Barry Evans make a special appearance during a very special episode focusing on Nigel and his ongoing dementia battle.

Some familiar faces will also be reappearing with Sam Mitchell and Max Branning making a dramatic return ahead of Christmas. A special flash-forward episode, showing what lies in store for Max one year ahead, will air on New Years’ Day.
