Saddle up Yellowstone fans! Spin-off The Madison already filming a second season

The Yellowstone universe is ever-growing, and spin-off show, The Madison, is already filming a second season… before we have even gotten a chance to watch the first!

Chatter of a seventh extension series from the Dutton family show, fronted by Michelle Pfeiffer, has been ongoing for years, with Michelle said to be starring alongside Matthew McConaughey.

While we’re still waiting for it to drop, now that there’s a second season filmed, here is everything we do know about the series so far, including some A-list celebrities that have been added to the cast…

While the first season of the new show hasn’t landed on our screens yet, network officials seem to think it will go down a treat.

Filming has already wrapped on the second season of the show, which appears to have been renewed before the audience even gave their verdict.

The news comes via a message shared on social media by cast member Elle Chapman, who, per Screenrant, wrote: ‘And that’s a wrap on season 2. Heart is full.’ It all sounds very promising to us!

Entertainment Weekly first confirmed the news that actor Kurt Russell will be joining the franchise.

It’s uncertain whether he will be starring in the first season or has signed on for a later appearance, as shooting for The Madison began in Montana in August of 2024, and filming continued in Texas in November and December of the same year.

Kurt is well-versed in the Western world, having starred in the iconic 1993 film Tombstone. Later, in 2015, Kurt starred in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight.

Michelle Pfeiffer was one of the first stars confirmed for The Madison, with her taking on the role of Stacey Clyburn. Michelle will also executive produce the series.

‘She is the perfect anchor to the newest chapter of the Yellowstone universe,’ said Chris McCarthy, CEO of Paramount Global, adding that the actress is ‘a remarkable talent’.

We also know that Suits favourite Patrick J Adams has signed on to star as Russell McIntosh, an investment banker whose life has been mapped out before him.

Elle Chapman will play Russell’s wife, Paige, ‘a somewhat self-centered woman who indulges in a luxurious New York lifestyle provided by her parents and investment banker husband’.

Firefly Lane’s Beau Garrett will play Abigail Reese, a tough-speaking New Yorker and recently divorced mum-of-two, with Planet of the Apes star Amiah Miller playing her daughter. Elle and Beau’s characters will play the role of Michelle’s on-screen daughters.

Also announced for the cast is Matthew Fox, best known for his appearance on Party of Five, whose character has been described as ‘a self-reliant bachelor who loves the outdoors.’

What about Matthew McConaughey?

News that McConaughey might be joining the Yellowstone franchise sent fans into a frenzy so what do we know? It was initially rumoured that Matthew would star in the Yellowstone spinoff 2024 which we now know to be The Madison as far back as February 2023.

However, since the series has been announced there’s been no update on the rumours. It’s been reported that the actor was growing tired of the drawn-out contract negotiations in 2024 so it’s anyone’s guess as to whether he will make an appearance at this stage but the announcement of Matthew Fox joining seems to suggest otherwise.

Yellowstone veterans Cole Hauser, Kelly Reily and Luke Grimes were also touted to join the show but with no update, doubt has been cast on this as time goes on.

What is the show about?

‘A heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana’, according to Paramount.

The show was initially pitched as a series that ‘follows wealthy matriarch Stacy Clyburn and her family as they leave New York City and head to Montana in the wake of her husband and brother-in-law’s tragic deaths in a plane crash’, though these details may change.

When will it air?

The show is said to have begun production in August, according to TVLine. Filming was then carried out in Montana and New York as well as Texas.

The series was initially believed to launch following the return of Yellowstone’s series five, which aired last November, but that didn’t transpire. Hopefully, the show will land in the coming months. Even though season one has not even come out yet, season two of The Madison has already been filmed.

If you can’t wait to get your fix of Western and cowboy drama, there’s plenty of other universes created by Taylor Sheridan to sink your teeth into. Maybe rewatch Yellowstone, or give 1183 a go, which stars Sam Elliot and Faith Hill.

1923 is another spinoff saga in the series, and features a star-studded cast including Dame Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. And the Yellowstone-verse does not seem to be stopping there, with a new show Marshals, starring Luke Grimes as Yellowstone’s Dutton Kayce, also ready to air.
