Coronation Street airs shocking Summer scene as Corriedale fallout continues

Coronation Street has aired a shocking outburst from Summer Spellman tonight, as she continued to struggle following Billy Mayhew’s tragic death. The vicar died during the multi-vehicle crash in the Corriedale crossover, which was believed to have been caused by Debbie Webster.

Following Billy’s death, the whole community came together to pay their respects, with his doorstep being covered in flowers. But as the residents of Weatherfield try to move on, his ex-boyfriend Todd Grimshaw and adopted daughter Summer have been left to organise his funeral.

In tonight’s episode, Billy’s body arrived at Shuttleworth’s funeral parlour, earlier than expected. Todd and Summer were shocked to see the private ambulance pull up in front of them, stoking the flames of their grief.

After spending some time with Billy, Summer vented to Asha Alahan about the unfair loss of her dad. The furious youngster blamed Debbie for his death – though viewers know that Billy’s death was ultimately caused by Todd’s abusive boyfriend Theo Silverton trapping him in the mini-bus before it exploded.

“Why is he dead? He shouldn’t be dead!” Summer raged. “He’s dead because that stupid b*tch was drink driving. Debbie Webster killed Billy! And I hope she rots in prison for the rest of her life.”

Later, on the street, Debbie’s husband Ronnie tried to lift her spirits ahead of her upcoming sentencing. Their laughter was overheard by Summer, who angrily confronted Debbie.

“Billy’s my dad and he’s lying in the undertaker’s, thanks to you, and you think it’s funny? Death by dangerous driving? You’re disgusting. It should be murder!” she said, before slapping Debbie across the face.

Summer insisted her outburst was “nowhere near enough” justice for killing Billy, and she was escorted away by Todd. Ronnie tried to defend Debbie, but she tearfully admitted she deserved it.

Of course, viewers also know that Debbie is covering for Carl, who was the real driver of the vehicle. Her unwavering loyalty to her brother was explained yesterday when it was revealed that she is actually Carl’s biological mother.

Despite being aware of Carl’s crimes and manipulation, Debbie decided to plead guilty to all charges in order to protect him. How long will she take the blame for his actions?
