Coronation Street Theo actor inundated with support amid devastating real-life heartbreak
Coronation Street star James Cartwright, who plays Theo Silverton in the ITV soap, has opened up about his real-life heartbreak
Coronation Street’s Theo Silverton actor James Cartwright has revealed his real-life heartbreak, confessing this Christmas will “feel empty”.
James became part of the ITV soap this year portraying Theo Silverton, the fresh romantic interest of Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) – and it wasn’t long before chemistry ignited between the duo.
Nevertheless, Theo’s genuine nature and true character soon emerged as he has been controlling and mistreating Todd for months, attempting to dominate every element of his existence. Frightened by what his partner might do, Todd installed concealed cameras throughout their residence.

This month saw a compelling special episode presented through multiple recording devices including Todd’s covert camera, CCTV footage, dashcam recordings, video doorbell captures and police body-worn cameras.
Beyond the ITV soap however, Theo actor James recently discussed losing three cherished family members, and revealed how he’s battling with bereavement during this festive season, reports the Mirror.
“Very sadly, this year, we’ve lost both our dogs,” he said, as Metro reports. James continued: “And last year we lost my grandad, who was my best friend, just before Christmas. The house will feel very empty, so to combat that, we’re going out for Christmas dinner for the first time ever.”
Disclosing his Christmas Day arrangements, James explained: “We’ll wake up in the morning with all the family, we’ll open our presents, we’ll get our best suits on, and then we’ll go out for something to eat.

“Mum will have an egg nogg, Dad will have a sparkling water and me, my brother and sister will probably get giddy on buzzballs.”
The telly star then reminisced about his grandad during the festive season, saying: “My favourite memories are from when my dear grandad was still with us. To me those were the best Christmases because it was a full dinner table and lots of laughter.”
In response to James’ heartbreaking story of losing three family members, fans on Facebook quickly offered their support. One person wrote: “I’m so sorry for your loss,” while another commented: “That’s so sad.”
Interestingly, it seems showbiz is in James’ blood as his father is the successful writer and dramatist Jim Cartwright. Jim has written a vast amount of work over the years, most notably the 1992 play The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, which was adapted into a film in 1998 starring Jane Horrocks and Michael Caine.
Over time, James has collaborated with his famous dad on numerous occasions. In 2009, he was cast in the West End revival of his dad’s play The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, taking on the role of Billy.
