EastEnders’ Kush star looks unrecognisable in ‘jaw-dropping’ Amazon Prime series

Former EastEnders actor Davood Ghadami is almost unrecognisable as he takes on a fresh role in the series House of David, available on Prime Video.

The 43-year-old actor, born in Essex and best known for his portrayal of Kush Kazemi in Albert Square, now plays Eliab in this biblical drama series. The show offers gripping action and compelling storytelling as it follows the journey of young outcast David, chosen by God to succeed King Saul (played by Ali Suliman) after the king falls victim to his own pride.

David also faces the daunting task of battling the Philistines and their formidable champion Goliath (Martyn Ford). The cast includes Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam, Indy Lewis as Mychal, Yali Topol Margalith as Mirab, Ethan Kai as Jonathan, Oded Fehr as Abner, and Louis Ferreira as Jesse.

So why did Davood leave EastEnders?

Davood’s departure from EastEnders followed producers’ decision not to renew his contract, opting instead for a dramatic exit. He starred on a soap from October 2014 until April 2021, and over 100 viewers lodged official complaints about the violent scene in which he was shoved into the path of an oncoming Tube train, reports OK!.

After leaving EastEnders, Davood quickly secured his next major TV role, joining the cast of Holby City as Eli Ebrahimi. Unfortunately, his stint lasted only 18 months as the beloved BBC show was cancelled after 23 years, with the final episode airing in March 2022.

In 2023, Davood made a comeback as Eli Ebrahimi in a special Casualty episode marking 75 years of the NHS. The episode featured Eli caring for a motorcyclist who had been involved in a horrific crash.

Davood has also taken on the character of Ben Tyler in Beyond Paradise and made an appearance on the celebrity version of the BBC’s Pointless alongside James Bye, who played Martin Fowler.

Throughout his EastEnders tenure, Davood’s character Kush maintained a clean-shaven appearance and was recognised for his well-built, athletic frame. Since departing the soap, however, he appears to have intensified his fitness regime and chosen to cultivate a full beard, resulting in a remarkable makeover.

The star frequently keeps his 126,000 Instagram followers updated with snapshots and clips from his gym sessions and latest professional projects.

Recently, Davood posted an intense scene from House of David, writing: “Two warriors: one fights the enemy, one fights himself. Don’t miss the new House of David episode – out now (US only).”

Fans immediately flooded the post with praise, with one commenting: “My favourite show”, whilst another declared: “Best show ever”.

A third added: “I love this show. Fabulous acting”, as someone else noted: “Ooh, looking forward to watching this.
