How to Watch

Watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Since his arrival in Season 24 of SVU, Bruno has cemented himself as one of the SVU’s most dedicated detectives; the guy has a certified passion for helping survivors and has been put to full use alongside Benson’s steadfast squad, leveraging his spot-on instincts and sardonic humor to help the detectives track down suspects and stay focused amid the chaos. Bruno has a level head and preternatural investigation skills, which came in clutch during Law & Order and SVU‘s two-hour crossover event.

It was all hands on deck as the squads investigated a nefarious baby farm run with nefarious financial connections to a white supremacist eugenics group, culminating in an explosive showdown that jeopardized Bruno’s life.

Bruno was severely injured while investigating a horrific case

After a Ukrainian woman was shot and killed shortly after miscarrying, Benson’s elite SVU and Brady’s fearless 2-7 teamed up to make sense of the madness, soon uncovering a sinister big picture. Ukrainian women were paying to become surrogates in an effort to gain U.S. citizenship, and were later subjected to crude medical malpractice once arriving in the U.S.

Meanwhile, the surrogate embryos were donated from a Christian fertility clinic, later unethically used to support a eugenics-fueled agenda and large-scale human trafficking scheme. The masterminds were Sarah Tandon, the owner of the bogus charity providing black market adoptions for a profit, and the eugenics company’s founder, who financed housing for the large-scale operation.

While looking through Sarah Tandon’s correspondence for leads, the squads found the coordinates of one of the embryo delivery locations. After getting in raid gear and heading to the location, the detectives found an abandoned warehouse where they discovered hate group memorabilia and white supremacist imagery scattered all over the walls. After spotting a shed in the back yard, the squads moved to clear the location, uncovering an even more unsettling scene.

The shed was an arsenal of illegal contraband, littered with firearms and explosives. As the SVU and 2-7 processed this troubling scene, Bruno noticed a faint ticking in the room, asking them to all listen up. Benson, instantly knowing what to do, screamed for the squads to get out as soon as possible.

The squads fled the building instantly, with the blow of the massive explosion sending several of the investigators flying and ducking for cover. But as the last person out of the building, Bruno took on the brunt of the damage. As Benson gained her bearings, she noticed a bloodied Bruno who’d been stabbed in the torso with a piece of flying debris. Benson urged the officers to alert the medics as she tried to contain the bleeding.

Amid the explosion, Bruno sustained significant injuries from being critically impaled, leading him to lose a lot of blood in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. As Benson put pressure on the wound, Bruno suddenly flatlined, but after being defibrillated, his pulse thankfully returned.

Once he was taken to the hospital, Bruno was rushed into surgery as Benson tearfully bid farewell. Bruno was in good hands, as Benson later got an update that the shrapnel had done a number on Bruno’s spleen, but the bleeding was under control, so they were optimistic about a swift recovery.

Toward the end of the episode, viewers were graced with some peace of mind after Bruno visited the 16th Precinct to visit Benson and get the update on the case, which the squads successfully solved. Happy to see her squad mate, Captain Renee Curry (Aimé Donna Kelly) asked how Bruno was doing.

“Oh my stars, look who’s up and about,” Curry said with a smile. “How ya feeling?”

“I’m still a little sore,” Bruno answered. “Won’t be wearing any bikinis this year, but otherwise I’m good.”
