Kayce Dutton Is on a Quest for Vengeance in the New Marshals Trailer
Don’t look now, but it seems as if Taylor Sheridan killed off another Yellowstone character in the upcoming spin-off.
Kayce Dutton is “Rambo with a Stetson.” That’s the latest description of Luke Grimes’s former Yellowstone character in the trailer for the upcoming spin-off series Marshals. After selling his family’s ranch and vowing to leave all of Yellowstone’s violence behind, the character now returns to just the opposite—and it seems as though fans finally have a reason why.
In the new trailer, which played for CBS audiences during the NFL’s AFC Championship game this Sunday, there’s one character in Kayce’s life who is mysteriously absent: his wife. It looks as if Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan killed off Monica Dutton (played by Kelsey Ashbille), which radically shifted Kayce’s worldview. “Yellowstone is gone, same for most of my family,” Kayce says as a bedsheet is pulled over a dead body while Kayce and his son, Tate (Brecken Metrill) watch. “As for vengeance, the day’s still young.”

Paramount Network has yet to confirm whether Ashbille will return for Marshals—even in flashbacks—but her absence is enough of a shock to convince Kayce to reconnect with his old Navy SEAL buddies and join the U.S. Marshals in Montana. They’ll need him, because Montana is currently dealing with “the most violent criminal network in this hemisphere,” according to Kayce’s new pals. Marshals will also see the return of Gil Birmingham and Mo Brings Plenty, who play Thomas Rainwater and Mo, respectively. Watch the new trailer below.
