The next Law & Order: SVU season 27 episode has been canceled from airing on NBC. The episode features guest star Timothy Busfield, who was recently charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and child abuse.

Instead of airing “Corrosive,” the Law & Order: SVU episode with Busfield that was planned for Thursday, January 15, NBC will now show the episode that was previously scheduled for Thursday, January 22, titled “Fidelis Ad Mortem.” It has not been announced yet whether “Corrosive” will be permanently canceled or if it will air at a later date.

The allegations against Busfield originated from his allegedly inappropriate behavior toward two male child stars on Fox’s The Cleaning Lady series and an arrest warrant was issued on January 9, 2026. Busfield was one of the show’s executive producers and directors, along with appearing in an episode. He could be sentenced to at least three years in prison if found guilty of the charges.

Law & Order: SVU episodes frequently deal with sex crimes and the plot of the episode starring Busfield involves abuse. He was cast as a respected judge whose life is threatened. As the SVU team investigates and encounters an anonymous video via their tip line, the episode also involves Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) attempting to help a survivor of abuse.

This would not have been Busfield’s first appearance in the Law & Order franchise, with prior credits including a season 20 episode of the flagship series and a season 13 episode of SVU. He also directed two SVU season 20 episodes and a season 22 episode of Law & Order.

An unrelated sexual assault allegation against Busfield, this time from a 17-year-old female extra, occurred on the set of the 1994 movie Little Big League. He settled this lawsuit and a separate countersuit against the young woman’s lawyers, who he accused of defamation.

The actor, director, and producer is best known for his roles as White House Correspondent Danny Concannon in The West Wing and as Mark, the brother-in-law of Ray (Kevin Costner) in Field of Dreams.

Before Busfield’s Law & Order: SVU episode was pulled, season 27 had already gained more attention than usual. It began with the return of the fan-favorite Rollins as a series regular, followed by the funeral of longtime character Captain Donald Cragen (Dann Florek) in the premiere, and Fin (Ice-T) being absent more than in the past.
