Season 27 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has been delivering non-stop action and suspense, and as Captain Renee Curry (Aimé Donna Kelly) continues to kick criminal butt with the rest of the elite squad, viewers were excited to finally meet her son, Gabe Curry, played by actor Jay Mack.
How to Watch
Watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC and next day on Peacock.
While the SVU grind often demands all hands on deck for Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and her dedicated detectives, that doesn’t stop life beyond the precinct. And when Curry isn’t closing cases with impressive panache, you can bet she’s baking sweet treats or enjoying some time with her teenage son, Gabe, who viewers met for the first time during Season 27’s “Fidelis ad Mortem.”
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child star Jay Mack made his Law & Order debut with an unforgettable introduction as Gabe Curry, the reporting witness of a mystifying cold case. Here’s what happened:
Renee Curry’s son Gabe has officially made his debut on Law & Order: SVU

While SVU fans have known that Curry has a son for a while — learning the occasional insight into the boy’s affinity for basketball or his teenage years — Gabe Curry didn’t make his debut until Season 27 during a particularly gripping cold open. While Gabe and a group of his teenage friends relished in their thrift hauls together, one of the girls bragged over getting a retro cassette tape.
After popping the tape into a stereo, they were shocked to discover a sinister recording of a woman being sexually assaulted and fighting off an attacker. As the recording reached a horrific fever pitch, Gabe stopped the tape as his friends waited in shock.
“That sounded real,” one of them said, looking around in confusion.
“Where’s the case?” Gabe asked, popping the tape out and returning it to its holder. After giving it a thought, Gabe told the group, “I’m going to show this to my mom.”
Gabe strolled into his living room, finding SVU badass Renee Curry on top of a ladder installing a light fixture. After mindlessly asking Gabe to hand her a tool and reminding him of an upcoming quiz, Curry realized that something was very wrong.
In honor of Gabe’s Law & Order arrival, SVU star Aimé Donna Kelly took to Instagram to share a sneak peek from the episode with a humorous caption.
“When your son comes to tell you something, and you think it’s gonna be some nonsense about how he forgot his homework at school so you have to give the ‘boy stop playing with me’ face but also let him finish talking cause you taught him it’s rude to interrupt people….” Kelly captioned the post. “Anyway- tonight’s the night! Meet Curry’s whole heart, her son! Played by the wonderfully talented Jay Mack!!”
Gabe’s discovery led the SVU to solve a 27-year-old cold case

“I think you should listen to this,” Gabe told Curry, launching a winding investigation and jaw-dropping SVU episode. It didn’t take long for Curry to bring Gabe and the recording to the 16th Precinct, looping in Benson on the concerning tape. After giving it a listen, Benson first addressed the elephant in the room: Curry’s teenage boy being forced to hear such an atrocious thing.
“That must have been hard to listen to,” Benson said, getting a signature teenage boy shrug from Gabe as he said he was fine. Benson thanked Gabe for bringing the tape to their attention, making a lighthearted joke about kids these days listening to cassette tapes again. As Gabe left the precinct, Benson checked in on Curry amid the hectic day she’d had.
“He OK?” Benson asked. Curry said that Benson knew how boys were; they acted as if nothing bothered them, but Curry could tell Gabe was disturbed by what he’d heard.
“He’s got a therapist, he’ll be alright,” Curry shrugged, unable to wipe away the memory herself.
“And what about you?” Benson asked.
“I’ve got a therapist, too,” Curry quipped as the pair got to work on figuring out the truth behind the mystifying cassette tape.
After tracing the tape back to an estate sale’s basement, the squad discovered the 27-year-old human remains of a missing woman named Tameka, whom they later unveiled as a criminal informant. After deducing that Tameka was murdered by a crew of corrupt cops, the SVU detectives arrested two involved culprits, unmasking a renowned D.A. Investigator as the mastermind behind the elaborate murder cover-up in the process.
After nearly three decades of getting away with the horrific act, justice was delivered once and for all, and it was all thanks to Gabe making the right call and getting Benson and her elite squad on the case.
