The Dutton Ranch Yellowstone spin-off is coming soon

The Dutton Ranch: another Yellowstone spin-off is coming to our screens

Even if you’re not typically a fan of the Western genre, you have to admit that Yellowstone has everything going for it: sky-high stakes, fierce rivalries and complex familial relationships. The so-called ‘Succession, but with cowboys’ delivers a masterclass in tension and dramatic pacing, so it’s little wonder that a new spin-off starring two of the most beloved characters is currently in the works.

Picking up in the present day, amid the Dutton family’s fight to protect their vast ranch in Montana from developers, rivals and members of their own family, The Dutton Ranch is set to follow Beth Dutton (played by Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) as they guard their land from external forces and help raise the troubled Carter – their unofficially adopted son.

According to the official synopsis: “Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler are grateful for the peace they sought, fought and nearly died for with their 7,000-acre Dutton Ranch. With tough times and stiff competition, Beth and Rip do what they must to survive, all while ensuring Carter becomes the man he’s supposed to be.”

By way of cast, Reilly and Hauser will return as Beth and Rip, with Fin Little as Carter. Ed Harris will also appear as Everett McKinney, “a weathered veteran and veterinarian”, while Annette Bening has been cast as Beulah Jackson, the “powerful, cunning and charming” owner of a major ranch in Texas.

And with so many strong personalities in the mix, there’s sure to be plenty of drama to unfold…

The Dutton Ranch is not the first Yellowstone spin-off by any means: miniseries 1883 has already given us insight into how the Dutton family came to own the land that became the Yellowstone ranch, while 1923 showed a newer generation of Duttons taking the forefront against the backdrop of the Great Depression.

And as if that wasn’t enough, yet another spin-off – The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell – will be released on 14 March. According to the official logline, the series is “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.”

Paramount+ hasn’t announced a release date for The Dutton Ranch just yet, but filming is underway, and the series is projected to be released in 2026.  Watch this space. [object Object]
