‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff ‘Marshals’ May Be Missing This Fan-Favorite Character
Yellowstone has been a cultural phenomenon like few others in recent memory. The drama’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, has masterfully tapped into the modern Western zeitgeist and made the most of it. The characters he crafted and their tangled, thorny private lives are riveting. There is nothing formulaic or hum-drum about any of them. Proud and passionate, they rule the prairie. Starting on March 1, a new Yellowstone spinoff will make its debut. The drama will continue the saga of Kayce Dutton, played by actor Luke Grimes.

To some fans’ disappointment, however, his wife, Monica, is widely expected to be absent. Actress Kelsey Asbille, who brought Mrs. Kayce Dutton to life, will be greatly missed by many if that is the case.
Luke Grimes Opened up About the New Show a Few Months Ago
Luke Grimes talked about how he envisioned a Yellowstone spinoff about Kayce back in June 2025. He told People that a new show depicting the character having a happy, blissful life would be pretty boring. The actor was looking for some real dramatic heft and heart, and he felt that the audience would feel the same way.
He dropped a few hints at the time about what to expect. “If it was just like, ‘well, he’s happy’ — we’re just going to watch him be happy? That’s not very cool. But I’ll say this, the idea that was pitched to me is very, very good and very interesting and it really roped me in and I think it will rope the audience in as well.” Grimes added, “There’s going to be some familiar faces, but there’s going to be a lot of new faces too, so we’ll see how that all feels.”
It Looks Like One Familiar Face Probably Won’t Be There
For whatever reason, it seems from the series trailer that Monica may very well have been eliminated. Per Holler, “…[T]here’s a moment in the trailer where a dead body is covered in a bed – one that undoubtedly looks like the cabin Kayce and Monica had been living in.” In addition, Kayce ominously states in a voiceover, “My family’s had this land for almost 150 years. But the only thing I’ve ever wanted was taken from me.” His wife, maybe?
Another hint that Monica would be out of the action was when Kelsey Asbille was not announced earlier as a member of the Marshals cast. Put everything together and it looks like she has moved on. We’ll see on March 1.
